Gertrude was born April 8, 1924, on a farm in Stark Township south of Sleepy Eye to Peter Simon Goblirsch & Katherine Elizabeth (Molden) Goblirsch. She was baptized, received her First Communion, was Confirmed and was married at St Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Gertrude grew up helping with the gardening, chores around the house and with the younger siblings. She attended country school except for fourth grade when she attended boarding school to prepare for her First Communion. Gertrude was united in Marriage to Leonard Richard Grunig on June 12, 1945 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. This union was blessed with 8 children, Clara, Diane, Arthur, Gerald, Karen, Alyce, Dale & Jane. They lived on farms near Comfrey, Lamberton and Mountain Lake before purchasing a farm north of Heron Lake were they lived for 34 years before moving to Windom. Gertrude was a "stay-at-home-mom" and spent much of her time gardening. Her hobbies included photography and genealogy. To her credit many of the pictures were hers in the pictorial directory for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, where she was a member.
