various campgrounds teaching the grandchildren how to fish and going on tube rides behind the boat, trying their best to get the grandchildren to fly off. It was his joy to take all of the grandchildren at least once a summer for a weekend to different campsites. During Christmastime, Alden took pride in teaching the grandchildren how to make his famous popcorn balls with fun colors. Alden enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and really got a kick out of getting teased back. That was when you could tell he was in his happy place. Alden loved the quiet, but there were moments when you would catch him listening to comedy shows. It never failed when he had visitors that he would offer Limburger cheese, and would always invite his children and grandchildren over for liver and onions. His cookies were a favorite among all. Alden always made sure he was there for each and every person. Alden’s favorite pastime was going for walks with their dog Buddy, sitting and relaxing in the summer, reading newspapers, sitting in the swing, and watching the traffic, along with feeding his flocks of so many different types of birds in the front yard, which he called his chicken chores. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. He will truly be missed. Alden was preceded in death by his sons, Glenn Panos and Keith Panos; his wife, Marie; and his parents, Adolf and Margaret Panos. Alden is survived by his two sons, Steve (Bev) Panos of Spillville, Iowa, and Tony (Charlene) Panos of Alabama; and one daughter, Margaret (Jay) Uhlenhake of Lawler, Iowa. He is survived by his ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, his brother, sisters, and in-laws. There will be a private service for the family at a later date.
