Mary Ellen Meyer

Mary Ellen Meyer was born September 25, 1956, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Mary Catherine (Farrell) Elbert. She grew up and attended school in Whittemore and later Bishop Garrigan High School, graduating in 1974. Ellen went on to attend College of St. Mary's in Omaha, where she played softball, before going on to attend University of Northern Colorado, graduating in 1978. She moved back to the area and began working. On May 5, 1979, Ellen was united in marriage to Ron Meyer at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. Ellen worked at the Cylinder State Bank, Farmers State Bank, managed the Whittemore Golf Course and was a bookkeeper for Commercial Services in Algona and Keith Roth Trucking in Whittemore and most recently was working at North Iowa Lumber in Algona. Ellen enjoyed playing golf (mostly putting), mowing the yard, playing euchre, fishing and volunteering at the Legion for whatever was going on. She also enjoyed decorating for Christmas and St. Patrick's Day and was a Past Grand Marshal for the Algona St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2009. tterment Committee. Ellen died Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. She was 62. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ron of Whittemore; sons, Joshua Meyer of Whittemore; Ben Meyer and friend, Jodi Duhn and her son, Jackson of Milford; grandson, Cooper Meyer; brothers, Dan and Maureen Elbert of Whittemore; Mick and Patty Elbert of Algona; brother-in-law, Ken and Linda Meyer of Oelwein and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund (Mary) Elbert; father and mothers-in-law, Ernst (Leona) (Luella) Meyer; daughter-in-law, Brooke Meyer; twin sister, Eileen Bell and her brother-in-law, Chuck Bell.
