David Hammer, 64, of Malvern, IA, passed away June 18, 2019. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Glenwood Park in Glenwood, IA, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the family David Lynn Hammer, 64, of Malvern, Iowa passed away peacefully on June 18, 2019. David was born May 11, 1955 as the first child to Harold Roy Hammer and Velma (Shannon) Hammer. He attended school K-12 graduating from Glenwood High School in 1973. Early in his adulthood, David had one daughter, April Lynn. He later married Ann Sorenson. During their marriage, they moved to Harlan, Iowa where they raise their daughter, Johanna. Later David moved back to live in Malvern, Iowa where he worked at the Malvern Elevator and then ventured into truck driving for Malvern Fertilizer. David spent his final years operating Dave's Tire Service until his failing health prevented him from working. David had a great passion for his race cars. If David wasn't racing cars, he spent time outdoors, animal trapping in the nearby creeks in the hopes of trapping muskrats, beaver or even that one mink he was so proud of. Although David lived an isolated life, at times he had a wild side. He was soft-spoken and had a very gentle spirit. David was a true friend to those who knew him. His rough exterior did not often show the great man he truly was. His kind soul is now at peace. David will be missed by his family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Velma Hammer; maternal grandparents, Chester and Mable Shannon; and paternal grandparents, Harold and Ethel Hammer. David is survived by his daughters, April Lynn Hammer, and Johanna Lyon and husband Chad; brother, Jeff Hammer and partner Espie; sisters, Pat Olson and husband Monte, and Barb Hammer and wife Janie; aunts, Joan Hammer and Georgianna Shannon; nieces and nephews; cousins; and a host of friends.
