Gary Roush

Someone very sweet and giving with a wonderful sense of humor are just a few ways to describe Gary Roush. A few historical events that occurred in 1947 included a high demand of consumer goods that outstripped supply in the United States. The year saw some of the most significant inventions that would impact lives for many years to come including the transistor, the mobile phone and Polaroid's "Land " instant photo camera. On April 29, 1947, Luster Edward and Maxine A. (Krinn) Roush welcomed the birth of Gary Eugene Roush in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He grew up in the country with his family in a small town. He loved to fish and help with the family electrical and farming business. He was a very hard worker, but enjoyed taking time out for fishing trips that included fishing in the local lakes and later taking trips up north to fish for pike and musky. Gary attended Chester Center High School, in Wells County, where he excelled in history, made a memorable trip to the World's Fair in Washington D.C., and met Margaret Mary Hawn, before graduating with the Class of 1965. an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering and was a UAW Journeyman, retiring in 2008 after 23 years with General Motors, Fort Wayne. Gary was very patriotic and he also loved supporting the local police department. His memberships include the UAW and he also was a 50 year member of the Montpelier Lodge #600 F & AM Masonic Lodge, Montpelier. The most memorable moments in Gary's life were when his kids were born, and later his grandchildren, that he loved more than anything! Gary's favorite book was The Frontiersmen, but he enjoyed listening to WOWO 1190am on the radio or music from the 50s & 60s so he could hear his favorite song Blueberry Hill. Gary's favorite movie was Searchers, but he also loved watching old westerns or any movie with John Wayne, and the Indianapolis Colts play football. When it was time to eat, nothing was better to Gary than a meal with good steak, apple dumplings, or peaches, which were all favorites. Each Sunday, as a weekly tradition, Gary hosted a family lunch at his house, but his favorite gathering holiday was always Thanksgiving. In the winter, Gary would travel to Brownsville, TX to see his parents, and of course fish, but his favorite season was spring, so he could mow the yard with his upscale mower. He was considered the most generous person you could ever meet by those who knew him best, and he will be dearly missed. Gary Eugene Roush, 72, of Columbia City passed away at 6:59am Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City of pancreatic cancer. He is survived by 2 sons, Luster E. (Heather) and Douglas G. (Kattie) Roush both of Columbia City; 4 grandchildren, Chelsey R. (Grant) Wood, Samantha J. Roush, Madeline M. Roush and Tabitha G. Roush all of Columbia City; one great granddaughter, Rowen M. Wood and companion, Melanie Yarger, Fort Wayne. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret Mary Roush and 1 brother, Kent Roush. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 1-2:45 at DeMoney-Grimes, A Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Samuel Mills of Big Lake Church of God officiating. Mr. Roush will be laid to rest beside his wife at South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Roush's memory to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
