ss Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown and quickly passing her state boards to become a registered nurse in 1953. While in nurses training, she met a handsome patient named Floyd Lynch. After dating through daily letters to him while he was serving with the Army in Korea, they were married on November 25, 1953. Through their years together, they lived in rural Grundy Center, Conrad, rural Albion and Marshalltown. Nathalie worked as a full time Registered Nurse at the Grundy Memorial Hospital, Marshalltown Evangelical Hospital, and the Iowa Veterans Home. She was certified by the American Nurses Association in the area of gerontology and retired from nursing in 1993 and moved to The Embers in Marshalltown after Floyds death in 2013 where she resided during the tornado in 2018. Nathalie loved needlework and was proficient in sewing (which she started at a very young age), knitting, crocheting, embroidery and quilting. Orchids filled her home as well as stained glass projects she created. She enjoyed camping for over 40 years with Floyd, family and friends. She was active in church as a Youth Leader , Elder, Deacon and Chair of the Women's group. She knitted approximately 150 prayer shawls, which the church distributed to those who had a major loss in their lives. Nathalie is survived by her children, Diane McLeland of Grundy Center, Mark (Cindy) Lynch of Grundy Center, Kurt (Julie) Lynch of Marshalltown, Karen (Steve) Holl of Conrad and Paul (Martha) Lynch of Atlanta, Georgia, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a brother, Dr. David Shumway of Punta Gorda, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, parents, Milton and Eleanor Shumway, and sister, Mavis (Wilfred) Sommerlot.
