Robert L. (Bob) Sullivan, 85, of Hollywood, FL, passed away on March 22, 2019, after a brief illness at Memorial Regional Hospital. Bob was a longtime resident of the Glove Cities, transferring to Gloversville in 1963 as part of the management team of the J. J. Newberry Company, first at Britt's located at the Arterial Plaza and then at the downtown J. J. Newberry's. He later was a longtime night manager at Trackside Homes in Johnstown. Bob retired south to North Carolina in 2001 to live near his brother, James Sullivan (deceased). He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (now Church of the Holy Spirit). Born in Hamden, Connecticut on December 21, 1933, Bob was the son of William J. and Ruth (Lamb) Sullivan (both deceased). Bob was a 1952 graduate of Hamden High School, Connecticut. He joined the Army out of high school, serving in Korea during the Korean War. Bob was awarded medals for National Defense, Korean War Service (with two bronze stars) and the United Nations Korea Service Medal. n business administration. Bob remained a lifelong fan of UConn sports, especially the success of the Woman's Basketball program. Bob was married on August 1, 1959, in Naugatuck, CT to Mary L. (Lynch). Bob is survived by his ex-wife, Mary (Lynch) Sullivan, of Mooresville, NC; four daughters, Catherine Sullivan (Ruth) of Seattle, WA, Sandra Hall of Hollywood, FL (with whom he spent his last months), Joanne Sullivan (Arturo) of El Paso, TX and Elizabeth Preston of Mooresville, NC; sons, Robert L. (Larry) Sullivan of Duluth, GA and William J. Sullivan of Snellville, GA. Bob is also survived by siblings, William J. Sullivan of Richmond, VA, John Sullivan of Hamden, CT, Margaret (Polly) Bentley of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Esther Girard of Griswald, CT. Bob has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (with one on the way) and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are being handled by Fred Hunters Funeral Home of Hollywood, FL. Interment will be scheduled later this spring at the South Florida National Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. Everyone that knew Bob is asked to not take any wooden nickels.
