How Did We Do?

Robert Michael Kearney "Bob", was born in Washington DC on Bollings' Air Force Base, on November 29th 1949, to William and Agnes Kearney. Bob grew up around the world with his sisters Mary Grigas (Mimi), and Karen Gallagher (Kari) and younger brother Billy, in a military pilot family. After graduating High School in California, Bob married and had two children, Chad and RaChella. Bob had aspired to be a military pilot, like his dad, but his vision did not suffice. Instead of being drafted to Vietnam, he chose a Naval career. For ten years, Bob served the Navy, mostly as a nuclear mechanic on the USS enterprise outside Vietnam. He then graduated College in Hawaii, moved to Seattle, and completed two Masters degrees in business, while working at Boeing as a Business Analyst. Bob met Cecily at Boeing in 1987, and they married in 1991. They had three children named Shane, Karleen, and Case. After living in Des Moines, they settled in Edgewood for 25 years. Bob was close to his parents who moved to Burien from California, to be near him and sister Kari of Federal Way. Family was always first to Bob. He was a source of strength, and relaxed quirky humor in the worst of times.

He loved his classic red, Volkswagon van that he rebuilt constantly after buying it new in 1971. Diet coke in a can by the case, johannisberg riesling wine, meat and potatoes, key lime pie, burnt cream, and pork chops, were some of his favorites (but no vegetables).

He had a naturally beautiful, low tenor singing voice, and was a self taught guitarist and fiddle player. He sang and played guitar at Chad and RaChellas weddings.

Karlichi-oso or Karliciousness was Karley, Mr. Shane was Shane, Mr. Happy was Case, Chad Wallader or Chad-Wick was Chad, and Boom Bella was RaChellla. Cecily was always Cecily.

Bob was always regimented, up early and to bed early, and always on time. He chatted up a storm in the mornings, but don't get in his way at bedtime, or easy going became angry.

He was a talented amateur photographer. He never missed any of his kids sporting events, taking photos of everything and sending packets of pictures to everyone involved. He coached many of Chads younger sporting events.

He skiied off the glacier at Blackcomb Mountain. He drove senior professional golfers in new Cadillacs as a volunteer and fellow excellent golfer. He loved sailboat racing, surfing in Hawaii and Westport. He always planned anniversaries around holidays so he wouldn't forget the date.

He was raised Catholic and educated by nuns, and those principles stayed with him.

You always knew when Bob was in the room because you could always hear his hysterical, crack up laugh, over the silliest things. Whether it was "Pennsyl-tucky", the Tap Dance of Death, or "Bucks for Lolo", he found humor in everything, and his laughter was contagious. He will always be remembered for his light hearted outlook on life. The peculiarities of others never phased him. He took people in stride, and had a great love and respect for everyone. And in particular, had an intense and unwavering love for his family.
