Following retirement she enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren's activities, quilting and recording family history. Lois was a member of the Hubbard Lamplighter's Club, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Zearing United Methodist Church, U.M.W. Group, Zearing Legion Auxiliary and the Zearing Quilt Guild. Lois and Lyman enjoyed many years of square dancing in Iowa Falls and with the Nevada Whirlers. Death came to Lois at the age of 88 on October 25, 2018 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Her final resting place will be at the McCallsburg Cemetery in McCallsburg, Iowa. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Michael James Rule in 1981, a granddaughter Joy Elizabeth Reams in 1982, four brothers: infant twins, Daniel Kenneth Maxwell in 1935 and Donald Keith Maxwell in 1936, Charles Henry Maxwell in 1987, Darrell Arnold Maxwell in 2007, and one sister Marion 'Joyce' Fitz in 1979. Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband Lyman and their seven children: James (Karen) Rule of Huxley, Iowa, Julie (Robert) Caster of Polk City, Iowa, Janella (Michael) Reams of Adel, Iowa, Jennifer Pilkington of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jeff (Nick Dong) Rule of Oakland, California, Jodie (Darren) Jens of Bothell, Washington and Jeanette (Edward) Shannon of Des Moines, Iowa, a step-sister Vivian Heck of Newton, Iowa, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, October 29 from 5 pm - 7 pm at the Zearing Bethel United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 30 at 10:30 am also at the Zearing Bethel United Methodist Church with graveside services immediately following at the McCallsburg Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family for a luncheon at the Dakins Community Center in Zearing. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
