Air Corps fighting in Europe. Upon returning to Iowa, they lived in Waterloo before settling in Marshalltown. They celebrated 70 years of a loving marriage together before Dean passed away in March of 2015. Gloria was a cook at St. Henry Grade School and the manager of Boyd's Ice Cream Parlor. Later, she was a longtime employee at the News Depot/Annette's Hallmark Store from which she retired in 1996 at the age of 75. Her passion was cooking and baking, and she enjoyed bowling and traveling to visit her grown children and grandchildren. Gloria was a charter member of St. Henry Catholic Church and a member of the St. Cecilia Study Club. Gloria's number one priority was her husband and their five children. By their example, Gloria and Dean instilled the important value of family in their children and they passed that value down to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, Gloria and Dean welcomed each new in-law into the family, treating each one as a daughter or a son. As a result of their example, you won't find a family anywhere that does a better job getting along and supporting one another, including taking vacations together. Left to carry on Gloria and Dean's legacy of a strong and loving family are their children: Dean (Mary) of Chandler, AZ; Terry (Shelly) of Flower Mound, TX; Jeff (Sue) of Eldridge, IA; Cindy (Kevin) of Marshalltown, IA; and Kim (Carol) of Davenport, IA.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren (with a 12th due in March of 2019); a sister, Pat; and a brother, Frank. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Paul and Tim, and a sister-in-law, Luanna.
