Robert Joseph Dotzler, son of Joseph and Leona (Grobmeier) Dotzler, was born August 4, 1927 in Defiance, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. He attended school at St. Peter's Catholic School, where he graduated with the class of 1944 at the age of sixteen.
On October 2, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Jeanette Kloewer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. Four children were born to this union: Janie, Nancy, Mike and Debbie. After their marriage, Bob and Jeanette lived in Harlan where he was employed as a carpenter. In 1953, they were offered a farm to rent which they worked until 1970. During this time he also did construction work. On December 15, 1969, he was offered a job with Farmers Home Administration as a construction inspector for fourteen counties in Northwest Iowa, with the main office in Storm Lake, Iowa. where they lived until he retired in 1990. They moved to Defiance, where they built a new home in town in 1994. Bob was a long time member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance.
Bob died at his home surrounded by his family in Defiance on Saturday, September 30, 2017, attaining the age of ninety years, one month and twenty-six days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Dotzler and sister Grace Wilwerding.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette Dotzler of Defiance, Iowa; children Janie and her husband John Bruck of Omaha, Nebraska; Nancy and her husband Myron Schaben of Defiance, Iowa; Mike Dotzler and his wife Diane of Boone, Iowa; Debbie and her husband Dennis Pfeifer of Arlington, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brothers Raymond Dotzler of Omaha, Nebraska; Donald Dotzler of Defiance, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
