m) Post of Morris, IL., two brothers Joseph V. Mecum and Ron L. (Sue) Lawson of Keokuk, IA., two sisters, Marcia A. Lawson and Ruth L. Lawson of Ft. Madison, IA., as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife Nita Post Mecum.
Jack left Keokuk as a young man and moved to Chicago. He had several jobs before becoming a truck driver, which he did for many years. He then tried his hand in the restaurant business in a hamburger/hot dog/pizza place called Jack's in Park Forest, IL., He and Nita decided to move to Florida. He sold the restaurant and moved to Sarasota, FL. In addition to driving a Sarasota County bus for many years, he also drove buses for First Class Tour Bus to Branson, MO and other locations. After he retired from SCAT in 2005, he enjoyed doing home remodeling and restoration work.
Jack loved to travel and would come to Iowa frequently to spend time with his family. Everyone who knew him would say "he never met a stranger" because he loved to talk to people and would talk to anyone and everyone. He loved to go to auctions and yard sales. He was an avid collector of tools, guns and other things that he thought someone else would want or need.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Oakland Cemetery, with family and friends meeting at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers, 917 Blondeau Street, for a procession to the cemetery.
