Doris was born on November 29, 1923, in La Crosse, Wis. to Ed and Gena (Vathing) Sanden. She was raised in Houston and graduated from Houston High School in 1940. On November 14, 1951, Doris was united in marriage with John Howard Benson. She worked for Ace Telephone in Houston as a secretary for 31 years. Doris was a very active civic leader. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, Houston County Historical Society and the United Campaign. Doris enjoyed life to the fullest. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Doris is survived by two sisters: Charlotte (Jack) Kerrigan of Houston and Ingrid (Larry) Slattum of Eagan, Minn.; one brother, Charles (JoAnne) Sanden of Pioneer Town, California; one sister-in-law, Amy (Benson) Houge of Richfiled, Minn. ; and by eight nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Doris at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Swede Bottom Cemetery in rural Houston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
