Al Sorkin passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013. His family was at his bedside. Al was born on November 17, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Bessie and Jacob Sorkin. He received his BA degree from UCLA, his Masters degree from California State University at Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. from Cambridge Graduate School of Psychology. He was a veteran who served his country from 1959 to 1961. He is survived by his wife Nina Ruth of 46 years, his son Stephen (Holly), grandchildren Eli and Meira and his sister Mimi (Mel) Salz. He worked for the County of Los Angeles, the State of California, El Centro Mental Health, Gateways Hospital, and founded URDC Human Services in Pasadena. In retirement was appointed and served as a Commissioner with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Service. Al had a deep love for and commitment to his family and community.
