Hall Allen Smith

Hall Allen Smith, one of two children of Stella Valeria (Whitmore) Smith and Stewart Brewer Smith, was born on October 30, 1928 in his grandmother's home near Colgate, North Dakota. He grew up in Deer Creek, Minnesota where he graduated from the Deer Creek High School in 1946. Following school, he worked on his parent's farm.

Hall and Donna Louise Zosel were married on November 18, 1946, in Brainerd, Minnesota. They made their home in Alexandria, Minnesota where Hall started working as a welder and pipefitter. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Joseph Allen, Kay Shellee, Pamela Lou, Patrick Allen and William Allen. Hall joined the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union #25 in Rock Island, Illinois and the family lived in several Midwestern communities, including Essex, Iowa and Davenport, Iowa.

Hall enjoyed gardening, woodworking, leatherwork, playing cribbage and golf. He was also very fond of his pets. Hall and Donna moved to Oakland, Iowa, approximately 20 years ago, to be closer to their family. Their family and grandchildren always came first and they enjoyed their time together and keeping in touch with everyone.

Hall and Donna were married 61 years, when Donna passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on January 1, 2008. Hall continued to live in their home in Oakland. He passed away at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital on February 1, 2009, at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna Smith; great grandson, Landon Bentley; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Seaton and husband Ralph, Joyce Hess and husband Lyle; and brothers-in-law, William Zosel and Carl Holderbach.

Hall is survived by his children, Joe Smith and wife Joan of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Kay Evans and husband Dale of Oakland, Pamela Danielsen and husband Robert of Davenport, Iowa, Patrick Smith and wife Susan of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Bill Smith and wife LuAnn of Carson, Iowa; sister, Estelle Amundson and husband Duane of Leaf Lakes, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial fund has been established.
