In loving memory of

Edward E. Mansur
October 2, 2008

Edward Elias Mansur, one of six children of Lebanese immigrant parents, Rev. Wade Alexander Mansur and Selma (Bitar) Mansur, was born in Yankton, South Dakota on September 19, 1925. Rev. Mansur was active in the Presbyterian churches in northeastern Nebraska and moved to various locations. The family eventually moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Ed graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1943.

Ed served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. From 1943 to 1950, he served in the U.S. Navy, both in active and reserve duty. He was stationed in locations such as Mare Island, CA, Pearl Harbor, HI and Omaha. His duties consisted of assisting physicians in the surgery wards and working in naval hospitals and at the U.S. Navy Shipyard Dispensary. During that period, Ed also served as Master at Arms. In Omaha, serving in the USMC Reserve, he performed both medical and clerical duties with the 18th Infantry Battalion. Ed was also Staff Sergeant in the Battalion administrative section performing clerical duties. In August 1950, he was called to active duty and was sent to Camp Pendleton, CA and San Diego, CA, serving in the Operations & Training as Administrative Chief. Ed was transferred to Washington, D.C. due to his Bachelor's Degree and teaching experience in English to be a military instructor. He had earned his degree at Omaha University following World War II and before serving in the Korean Conflict. On August 3, 1951, Ed was honorably discharged.

Following the service, Ed accepted a teaching position at Randolph, Iowa where he met his future bride, Lettie Elizabeth Stewart, of Tabor, Iowa. Ed and Lettie were married at Glenwood, Iowa on August 23, 1952. They made their home in Malvern, Iowa where Ed continued teaching. While in Malvern, their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Susan Elizabeth, who died in infancy, and Deborah Sue. Ed's teaching career then took the family to Council Bluffs, Iowa where they were blessed with the birth of their son, Mark Stewart. They moved to Ralston, Nebraska where Ed taught for many years at District 66 until his retirement in 1988.

Ed was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. He was a member of the National Education Association. Ed and Lettie enjoyed traveling together. His greatest enjoyment was when he could spend time with his family and grandchildren.

Ed and Lettie had been married for nearly 50 years when Lettie died on June 14, 2002. Ed continued to live in their Ralston home until moving to the Millard Good Samaritan Center in Millard, Nebraska. He passed away at the Center on October 2, 2008 at the age of 83 years and 13 days. In addition to Lettie and daughter Susan, Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Mansur and sister Florence Mansur.
