Loren Ronald Cole, one of three children of Malcolm Litchfield Cole and Ina Leose (Dobbs) Cole on May 28, 1935 at Macedonia, Iowa. Loren graduated from Macedonia High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Korea with the 728th Military Police Battalion. He reenlisted for a second tour of duty and was stationed in Germany with the 97th Signal Battalion. After his military service, Loren returned to Macedonia and then moved to Creston, Iowa where he began his lifelong career as an auto mechanic. While in Creston, Loren met Donna Jean Mattly from Cumberland, Iowa. They were married in Council Bluffs, Iowa on January 31, 1959 and established their first home in Creston. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Kandis Kae, Susan Marie, David Ronald, and Peggy Jean. A job opportunity took them to the Southwest Iowa towns of Clarinda and Council Bluffs before settling in Macedonia in 1967. Loren worked as service manager at Baller's Ford in Oakland, Iowa and then accepted a position as service manager at Wyman's Ford in Griswold, Iowa. He retired from full time work at Wymans in 1998 and continued part time.
Loren faithfully served his community of Macedonia as a city councilman for 31 years including four years as mayor. He was honored for 25 years of active duty service to the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department, serving two years as chief. He was a dedicated member of the Macedonia Cemetery Board and for years helped locate and mark cemetery lots. He and Donna would personally set the Veteran's markers. He also enjoyed his membership with the Macedonia Historical and Preservation Society. He was a member of the Model "A" Restorers Club, the Coral Masonic Lodge and Macedonia's Ruby Smith Post No. 648 of the American Legion. He and Donna were members of the Macedonia United Methodist Church.
Loren and Donna had been married for 49 years when Loren passed away on May 11, 2008 at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He had attained the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don Cole; and brother-in-law Gerald Spohn.
Loren is survived by his wife Donna; children Kandis Skank and husband Joe of Council Bluffs, Susan Miller and husband Randy of Carson, David Cole and wife Karen, Peggy Shields and husband Joe, all of Council Bluffs; eight grandchildren; sister Barbara Spohn of Carson; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
