In loving memory of

Dorothy (Mintle) Edmonds
December 17, 2008

Dorothy Mabel Edmonds, one of seven children of Eliza Ann (Parker) and Oscar Lewis Mintle, was born on March 16, 1914, on a farm near Glenwood, Iowa. She grew up in the Glenwood area, attending country school and graduating from Glenwood High School.

Dorothy attended Cedar Falls Teachers College (now Northern Iowa University) for two years. After eight years of teaching country school, Dorothy decided on a cosmetology career and attended Beauty School. For 30 years until her retirement, Dorothy owned and operated her own beauty shop on Sharp Street in Glenwood.

Dorothy married Eddie Joseph Jirovsky on January 31, 1946. They were married 15 years before his death on June 5, 1961 after a short illness due to pancreatic cancer.

Dorothy married Arthur Claude "Buck" Edmonds on August 8, 1964. They made their home in Glenwood and wintered in Arizona. Dorothy and Buck loved to travel and went on many trips, both in the States and overseas.

Dorothy was a member of the First Congregational Church in Glenwood. She enjoyed many hobbies, collecting old dolls, sewing and golfing but spending time with family and friends meant the most to Dorothy. Although Dorothy and her husbands did not have children of their own, their lives were full with the many friendships they made over the years and the affection and love of their nieces and nephews.

Dorothy and Buck had been married 32 years when he died on October 15, 1996. Dorothy continued to live in their home in Glenwood until she moved to Tabor Manor on February 8, 1999. Dorothy passed away at the Manor on December 17, 2007, attaining the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 1 day.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ed Jirovsky and Arthur Edmonds; brothers George Mintle and wife Velma, Richard Mintle who died in infancy, and Karl Mintle; sisters Hazel Howard and husband Charles, and Ruth Mintle who died at age one; and brother-in-law Archie Scott.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Anna Lucille Scott of Tabor, Iowa and sister-in-law Margaret Mintle Gehring and husband Art of Glenwood, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and their families; other relatives and friends.
