Leona Blatny

Leona Mae Blatny, one of two children of Emil Rezac and Rose (Stanislaw) Rezac, was born in Linwood, Nebraska on March 16, 1928. She grew up in Linwood and graduated from Linwood High School in 1945. After graduation, Leona attended Commercial Extension in Omaha for two years and then worked at Bell Telephone.
Leona and Bernard Blatny were married on October 19, 1948 in Morse Bluffs, Nebraska and made their first home on a farm near Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. In 1956, they moved to a farm near Council Bluffs, Iowa and in 1959, moved west of Macedonia, IA. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kenneth Dean, Carol Ann, and Gary Lee.
Leona loved being a mother and homemaker. She was well known for her good cooking and hospitality and took great pride in having a clean home. She loved caring for her flowers, garden, and canning the fruits and vegetables. Leona was also a true farm wife who drove the tractor, helped with the crops, tended the livestock, and milked the cows. She loved her family and was always there for her children and grandchildren, attending their sporting events and activities. Bernard and Leona always enjoyed going dancing with their life-long friends. Although Leona was a private person, she was always interested in the news and happenings.
Leona and Bernard had been married 58 years when Leona peacefully passed away on May 23, 2007 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had attained the age of 79 years, two months, and seven days. Leona was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Rezac.
Leona is survived by her husband Bernard Blatny of Macedonia; sons Ken Blatny and wife Joyce of Omaha, NE and Gary Blatny of Macedonia, IA; daughter Carol Pilling and husband Don of Denison, IA; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Fran Rezac of North Carolina; other relatives and friends.
