Gordon Mulholland
March 19, 2006

Gordon Walter Greene Mulholland was born on February 7, 1933 at Fairplay, Colorado to Norman and Laura Hopp Greene. On May 13, 1933, Gordon's father passed away at the age of 26. On November 7, 1934, his mother married Frederick Aistrope Mulholland of Malvern, Iowa. In August 1935, Fred adopted Gordon and at that time he took the Mulholland name. Gordon attended the Malvern Schools and graduated from Malvern High School in 1951. When he began high school, Gordon worked in his father's grocery store before and after school and during the summer. Following graduation, Gordon attended Junior College for two years at Wentworth Military Academy in Wentworth, Missouri, graduating in 1953 as a Mail NCO for his company. For the next six months, Gordon worked for his father in the grocery store before entering the Army in February of 1954. He served 15 months in France, giving him the chance to visit London and see the English countryside. In 1956, Gordon returned to Malvern and began his career working at Muholland Grocery with his father.
On May 12, 1957, Gordon and Nancy Ann Wright of Glenwood, Iowa were united in marriage and made their home in Malvern. They were blessed with two sons, Timothy Steven and Thomas Walter. The Mulholland family were active members of the First Baptist Church in Malvern where Gordon served as a deacon and moderator and continued to be an active member for the rest of his life. For many years, Gordon served as Cub Master for the Cub Scout Pack and was a member of the Malvern Area Business Association, serving as President as well as other offices. Gordon and Nancy both worked at the grocery store and eventually Gordan became the owner and operator. Gordon sold the store in 1993 and enjoyed traveling and community activities.
Gordon and Nancy had been married nearly 49 years when Gordon died at Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak, Iowa on March 19, 2006. He had attained the age of 73 years, one month and eight days. "I'm sorry Gordon had so many ill days but I did enjoy taking care of him when he was in the hospital. He and I had some good visits as he caught me up on the Malvern "gossip". I hope I was able to cheer him up some. Fran Olson ICCU nurse"
