Sarrah Moore Newberg

Sarrah Helen Newberg, one of eight children of William Edward Rountree and Helen Berthena (Willey) Rountree, was born at Tekamah, Nebraska on October 26, 1926. During Sarrah's school years, the family lived near Glenwood, Iowa and Silver City, Iowa. Sarrah later worked as a restaurant waitress in Malvern.
On June 10, 1944, Sarrah and Charles Harman Moore of Malvern were married. They established their home in Malvern where Sarrah worked at the variety store, the Swanson-Henningsen Egg Processing Plant, and later at the Nishna Cottage Nursing Home. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Shirley Elaine and Robert Wayne. In 1973, Sarrah accepted a position at the Glenwood State Hospital School. In 1976, she became a certified geriatric aide.
Sarrah and Wilbur R. Newberg of Malvern were married April 17, 1978 at the United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Iowa. They continued to live in Malvern and Sarrah completed her GED certificate and became a speech therapy technician. In 1980, Sarrah and Wilbur moved to Tabor, Iowa. Sarrah retired in 1988 after 15 years working at the State Hospital School.
Among Sarrah's enjoyments were her family, embroidery work, crocheting and making afghans for her grandchildren. She loved caring for her flower garden, especially the iris and hollyhocks, and feeding and watching the hummingbirds.
In 2002, declining health forced Sarrah to move to the Tabor Manor Nursing Home. In 2004, Sarrah moved to the Manor of Malvern and Wilbur moved to a home in Malvern. Sarrah and Wilbur had been married nearly 28 years when Sarrah died at the Manor of Malvern on January 3, 2006. She had attained the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 7 days. Sarrah was preceded in death by her brother George who died at the age of seven; her parents; brothers Lester Rountree, Walter Rountree, James Rountree and William Rountree; and step-granddaughter Brandi Vermele.
Sarrah is survived by her husband Wilbur Newberg of Malvern; children, Shirley Miller and her husband Lowell of Tabor and Robert Moore of Omaha, Nebraska; step-children, Alice Parks and husband Roger of Victoria, Texas, Donna Evans and husband David of Glenwood, Ed Newberg of Malvern, Pamela Vermele of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Richard Newberg of Mesa, Arizona; ten grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; brothers David Rountree of Tennessee and Charles Rountree and his wife Norma of Glenwood; sisters-in-law Marie Rountree of David City, NE and Esther Rountree of Michigan; step-sister Ethel of Columbus, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
