Madelaine Frances Teegarden, one of two children of Stout E. and Edith Mae (Thorburn) Buis, was born on August 7, 1921 in Savannah, Missouri. Madelaine grew up in Savannah with her family and attended the First Baptist Church where she was confirmed in 1933. In 1939, Madelaine graduated from the Savannah High School. Following school, she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri.
Madelaine and Edward B. Teegarden of St. Joseph were married in Troy, Kansas on April 5, 1947. Ed was employed as a driver for the Continental Trailways Bus Line and they made their home in St. Joseph. Their new family of four, including Madelaine's son Charles and Edward's son Leslie, grew to include their children Randy, Rod, Julie, Jan, and Tony. Madelaine enjoyed her role as a homemaker and caring for her family. In 1962, the family moved to Glenwood, Iowa. Madelaine transferred her church membership to the First Baptist Church of Glenwood. Madelaine and Ed operated Teegarden Taxi and also transported train crews from the depot in Pacific Junction, Iowa to the Dean Hotel in Glenwood. They owned and operated Teegarden Ambulance Service and became Iowa Emergency Medical Technicians in 1971. Madelaine and Edward had been married 43 years at the time of Edward's death on January 17, 1991.
Madelaine continued to live in her home and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She liked to cook, crochet, care for her house plants, and scrap booking. In the summer of 2005, her health began to fail. Madelaine died at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on August 12, 2005 just five days following her 84th birthday. "To the Iowa Teegardens' We were very sorry to receive the news of your Mother's passing, just when we thought she might be recovering. At 84 she led a full and active (I know some things about her kids and husband) life. We remember her as being so much fun to be around. Always full of laughs, yet very astute about all going on around her. I (Tailspin) happen to know that your Dad, my Brother, though so much of her - she was the salvation of his life. We know that all of you and her many friends will miss her very much. Sorry that we can't be there to help celebrate her life and to reacquaint ourselves with her and Ed's family. Tailspin (your Dad gave me that name)and Joann "
