Walter Carl Brockman, one of nine children of Carl William and Fanny Tina (Spect) Brockman, was born on his parent's rural home west of Carson, Iowa on November 23, 1920. Walter attended Pleasant Valley country school near Carson and the Zion Congregational Church in Treynor, IA. Following school Walter farmed with his father and brothers and in 1939 also began a truck driving career with Clausen Brothers Trucking in Treynor, IA. Walt and Beulah Edna Hundt were married on November 28, 1945 at Hiawatha, Kansas. They established their home in Carson and the marriage was blessed with daughters Donna and Debra and son David. In 1947, Walt purchased his first truck and went into business for himself. Walter became a partner with his brother Roy and established Brockman Trucking of Carson. In 1960, they added Brockman Brothers Coop Service Station located on Highway 92 in Carson, to their trucking operation. Walt and Beulah purchased the Carson Motel in 1973 and Walt retired from the station and trucking business in 1975. They converted the motel into apartments in 1995 and continued to live there.
Walt enjoy playing cards, gardening, growing flowers, fishing, and traveling. The family often traveled to Minnesota and Canada on fishing trips and on occasion were able to enjoy deep sea fishing in the Pacific. Walt was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church and the Carson Business Club.
Walt and Buelah had been married 56 years when Walt died at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA on July 10, 2002, having attained the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 20 days.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; son David Brockman in 2000; infant brother William Brockman, brothers George Brockman, Louie Brockman, Earl Brockman, and Roy Brockman; sisters Lena Schroeder, Margaret Limburg, and Velma Kirchoff. He is survived by his wife Beulah of Carson; daughters Donna Clement and her husband Rex of Carson and Debra Volz and her husband George of Kearney, NE; daughter-in-law Diane Brockman of Carson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
