Hans A. Mackens, 78, of Green Bay died Tuesday, August 10, 2010. He was born November 29, 1931 in Bremerhaven, Germany to the late Hans and Thea (Schneider) Mackens. He emigrated from Germany in 1954 and within six months of his arrival was drafted by the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean Conflict. On September 29, 1962, Hans married Kathleen Moser in Milwaukee, WI. Hans owned and operated Mackens Pontiac-Mazda from 1973 to 1996, and held offices at the state and national levels in the Automobile Dealers Associations. Hans was recognized by Pontiac for being number one in the nation for outstanding customer service. He had a deep respect for all who worked with him, and all those with whom he came in contact. Accomplishments in business are many, but small in comparison to his integrity of character, generosity and commitment to his family. Along with his passion for the sea, Hanss greatest enjoyment was to plan and execute trips all over the world with his wife, Kathy. We are honored to have had him as our husband and father.
Hans is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kristy Mackens; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Mark Avery; and four grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Mackens and Zachary and Elizabeth Avery.
In addition to his parents, Hans was preceded in death by his sister, Karin.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2010 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, where funeral services will take place at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating with Military Honors to follow. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Allouez. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Hanss name.
The family would like to thank the entire staffs of St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice for all of their care and support.
