In loving memory of

Mayme (Mamie) G. Weathers
March 14, 1933 - December 2, 2025

Mayme was born on March 14, 1933 in Hinton, Oklahoma to Alonzo and Helen (Valentine) Tallent, one of four children and the only one to survive even though she only weighed a little over 2 lbs. at birth. The family moved west to California in 1936 originally arriving in the Kingsburg area and camped under the river bridge until they relocated north to the Burney area for work. The move from Oklahoma was eventful traveling in a civilian model CJ2 Jeep that they rolled 2 times on the way west. Each time Mayme was ejected unharmed. They rolled the Jeep back over and continued on their journey. They moved on to the Napa area for a few years where Mayme's grandfather had settled when he moved from Oklahoma and finally settled in Los Banos in 1943. She began driving at a young age...first farm equipment for her dad and then cars over the Pacheco Pass to take her mother to her heart doctor in San Francisco. A family friend who happened to be a CHP pulled her over on the Pacheco Pass at 14 years old, scolded and told her she couldn't be driving without a license. She explained her mother's illness and need for medical care and he advised her to meet him at the DMV on the next Monday morning and he signed for her to get her license at 14. She always had endless stories to share about her childhood hunting bears, driving a D6 Caterpillar, family trips to the high Sierra's, raising a pet raccoon, meeting Roy Rogers when he challenged her dad and his bear hunting dogs to a competition and visits to her dad's cabin inside Kings Canyon National Park. She was known as a story teller and a character with a great memory and an eye for detail. Mayme graduated from Los Banos High School in 1951. Her mother passed away 2 days before she graduated.
She married Winston W. Weathers in July 1953. The family farmed together between Dos Palos and Los Banos for many years. Mayme learned to drive farm equipment from her dad, but Mr. George Nickel, after observing her driving heavy equipment for some time...stopped at the edge of a field, walked out to her on a Caterpillar, told her it was no place for her and to come to his office on Pacheco Blvd in Los Banos on Monday morning and he would put her to work. He taught her well. That is where her bookkeeping and record keeping skills developed. She taught herself how to use a computer and later on trained others, as well. She worked for Dr. Deldin for several years in his office. She was very involved in the Rainbow Girls organization with her daughter Deborah. She also was a member and President of the Dos Palos Y-ettes service organization.
She and Winston had many adventures together. They went hunting, fishing, water skiing, started golfing and traveled all over the United States, Canada & Mexico in their motorhome. For a time, after retirement, they moved to Hemet and quickly became friends with several couples, many whom were "Snowbirds" that came to the California desert for warm winters from Canada. After Winston suffered a stroke in 2008, they returned to their home in Los Banos. In 2012, Winston and Mayme lost their only daughter, Deborah to cancer. The following year, Winston passed away.
A little over 4 years ago, Mayme decided to relocate to her final home at New Bethany in assisted living. She enjoyed renewing friendships with high school classmates and old friends who also resided and visited there. Typical of Mayme, she became President of their resident's advisory board. She was a puzzle whiz and could easily put a 500-piece puzzle together in a couple of days. She was an avid reader, especially of western novels. She worked crossword puzzles & word searches to keep her mind sharp. Her memory was remarkable right up to a couple of weeks before her passing.
Mayme is survived by her son Winston Wayne, Jr. (Shelly), her son Alonzo James (Pam), 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2.5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings, her daughter Deborah Kaye Parreira (Paul) and her husband Winston. She will be remembered and missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her services will be visitation on Thursday, December 11th from 5:00-7:00 PM at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, 2350 Blossom St, Dos Palos, CA. Graveside services Friday, December 12th at Dos Palos Cemetery, 1800 Elgin Ave, Dos Palos, CA at 11:00 AM.
Any remembrances can be made in her honor to New Bethany Residential Care, 1441 Berkeley Dr, Los Banos, CA 93635
