Shirley Capehart
August 11, 1940 - September 15, 2025

Shirley (Norris) Capehart, 85, passed from this life on September 15, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born August 11, 1940, in Washington, the daughter of Joseph A. and Myrtle (Craney) Norris. She married Austin Lee Capehart, Jr. on September 19, 1959, and together they created a loving home for themselves and their children until his passing on September 23, 2020.

Although she held a few jobs outside the home, Shirley was happiest being a homemaker for her family. She was an avid reader, especially Westerns, and she loved to sew. Shirley was known to be a wonderful cook. She often hosted family get-togethers for large crowds. She was a devout member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg.

Those who now mourn Shirley's passing include her children: Sandra Richardville of Washington; Austin Lee (Jill) Capehart of Anderson; Demita Capehart of Petersburg; Pamela (Randy) Hayes of Petersburg; and Barbara (Tim) Barnett of Petersburg. Shirley was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren - and has another great-grandson on the way. She leaves a sister, Patricia Turnbaugh of Evansville; and a brother, Gordon L. Norris of Washington.

During her lifetime, Shirley grieved the passing of her parents, Joseph and Myrtle Norris; her husband, Austin Lee Capehart, Jr.; her son, Stephen J. Capehart; and brothers, Robert J. Norris and Glen M. Norris.

Visitation for Shirley Capehart will be held at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 711 Walnut Street, Petersburg, Indiana.

"Shirley was and is a beautiful person. I met her awhile back during the passing of Pat her sisters, sons passing. She and her husband spent half the day talking to me and my daughters. We so enjoyed visiting with them. They instantly felt like family to me. Blessings and prayers to the Capehart and Turnbaugh family."
