"Glandon family, we are so very sorry for your loss. She was such a wonderful woman. Our hearts and prayers go out to you all. - Robyn Smeltzer and Dustin Breckenridge "
Marilyn Lea Glandon was laid to rest in Jesus's arms on November 9, 2024, at home, surrounded by her large, loving family. Marilyn Lea Bensmiller was born on May 30th, 1942, in Sigourney IA, in her grandmother's home, to her folks, Frank and Laura- Viola Bensmiller. She had a wonderful childhood in Hayesville IA, enjoying it with her older sister Carolyn Bensmiller. She attended Hayesville Country School, and then went toSigourney High School graduating in 1960. Surrounded by white gladioli flowers and their families, Marilyn was united to her high school sweetheart, Ronald Lyle Glandon, in 1963 at the Hayesville Community Church. Marilyn and "Ron" went on to have twelve beautiful children. Their firstborn, Angela Kay passed away three days after birth due to illness. They then continued to have and raise Doug, Randy, Mark, Kristi, Boyd, Jacque, Dustin, Ryan, Karol, Justin, and Dru.
Marilyn worked at the Hayesville Bank, Kids and Company Day Care, and the Sigourney Group Home, but much of her life was spent being amazing "Mudder" or "Mamaw." Her twenty-six grandchildren spent most of their childhoods before/after school and summer in her big, yellow house eating malts and ice cream bars, and running barefoot in her yard as she sat and watched from her porch swing. She then continued to have thirteen great-grandchildren, with one on the way, who adored her so much. While she was busy with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she
continued to be a great mudder to all Sigourney community members.
Marilyn was a member of the Christian Church. Marilyn enjoyed making afghans and cooking for her large family; some of her most famous was fried chicken, potato salad, homemade chocolate malts and french fries, and barbecue meatballs. She also was the red bird peppermint puff's biggest consumer, active in her role as the self-appointed neighborhood watch, and the president
of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
She is now reunited in heaven with her husband Ronald Glandon, Infant Daughter Angela Kay Glandon, Parents Frank and Laura- Viola Bensmiller, and Sister Carolyn (Frank) Kerkove, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her children, Doug Glandon, Randy Glandon, Mark (Katie) Glandon, Kristi (Brent) Barnhart, Boyd Glandon, Jacque (George) Palmer, Dustin Glandon, Ryan Glandon, Karol (Phil) Richard, Justin Glandon, Dru (Misty) Glandon, her twenty-six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many, many other family and friends.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 10:30 am, with a luncheon to follow, at the Christian Church in Sigourney, IA.
