Kathryn Spina Yribarren, Kay to friends and family, was born September 27, 1921, in Los Banos, California. Kay was getting tired and passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 103 Kay was raised in Los Banos by her loving parents, Giuseppe (Joe) and Rose Spina, who were immigrants from Moliterno, Italy. Along with her sister, Ann, Kay grew up working on the small farm and dairy built by her parents. She worked the fields, raking hay with horses, and milked cows by hand. She said the most amazing event in her lifetime was getting electricity in the 1930s and getting a milking machine in 1940. She showed her Guernsey dairy
cattle in 4-H at local fairs, the State Fair, and in 1939 at Treasure Island. Kay attended local schools and graduated from Westside Union High School in 1939.
Kay married Albert Yribarren in 1950, and they raised their daughters in Los Banos. AIbert passed away in 1986. She was active in all of her daughters
school and 4-H activities. Later, after retiring, Kay became a constant presence in her grandchildren's lives. She was a special ""Nani" to them, passing down her ltalian traditions and love of cooking. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Italian Catholic Federation, Los Banos Golden Agers, Native Daughters of the Golden West, and was honored in 2019 by the Merced County Old Timers.
Preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Joe and Rose Spina; sister Ann Alberti (Henry); and niece Annabelle Alberti. She leaves behind her daughters, Michelle Wilson (Ken) of Clarksburg and Jeanine Spano (John) of Salinas. Grandchildren: Jenn McDougall (Matt), J.D. Spano (Amy) and Hannah Baffoni (Garrett). Great grandchildren: Sebastian, Enzo, and Emerson Spano and Brianna McDougall. Kay also leaves behind her nephew, Henry Alberti, Jr.
Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances or donations may be made in Kay's memory to any charity of choice.
