Richard "Rick" R. Nelson, 77, passed away on September 10, 2024, in Fresno, California. Born on November 28, 1946, in Sacramento, CA, he dedicated his life to serving his country, family, and community. Rick graduated from Fresno State in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Criminology. He embarked on a notable career with the United States Secret Service in 1971, serving as a Special Agent until his retirement in 1997. Following his service, he continued his professional journey as a bank investigator at Citibank and retired from Citibank in 2008.
Rick was a devoted husband of 55 years to Charlotte Nelson, loving father to four children, and a proud grandfather of eight. He was known for his loyalty and hardworking nature. Beyond his professional achievements, Rick enjoyed traveling with his wife, riding his Harley Davidson, spending time at his cabin in Shaver, playing golf, and living on Woodward Lake for the past 35 years. He cherished moments with his family above all.
Rick is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his children, Shon Nelson, Kristin Walburger, Kari Genco, and Lori Hurley; and his grandchildren, Natalie, Courtney, and Benjamin Walburger, Makenna, Kaitlyn, and Tyler Genco and Emily and Sydney Hurley.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 15, from 4-6 pm, followed by a memorial service on Monday, September 16, at 10 am. Both services will take place at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel in Los Banos, CA, which is assisting the family during this time. Rick's life and legacy will be honored and remembered by all who knew him.
