Raul Reyes Avila was born on January 11, 1944 in Del Rio, Texas and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 26, 2024 in Los Banos, California. He was 80 years old.
Raul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, carmen and Jesus Avila, his wife, Judy Avela, and his daughter Margaret Avila.
Raul is survived by his son, Aaron Avila, his daughters, Hope Del Franco and Stephanie Smith. And his many cherished grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, Ralph, Jessie, and Mike Avila, and his sister Carmen Avila. Raul's legacy of love and devotion will live on through his family and the countless lives he impacted.
A dedicated public servant, Raul graduated from Gilroy High School before serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as a sergeant in the Air Police. After his military service, he worked for Boise Cascade before pursuing a career in law enforcement. Raul graduated from the California Highway patrol Academy in Sacramento, where he excelled in more than 70 subjects, including vehicle code, unarmed defense, and emergency vehicle operation. He was initially assigned to the East Los Angeles Area, beginning a long and distinguished career with the California Highway Patrol.
