Greece: June 3, 2024. Rosita is predeceased by her parents, Aldo & Antonina Olimpio; husband Leonardo Mastri. She is survived by her husband, John Sodeman; children, Maria (Ben) Scrivens & Michael (Jenna) Mastri; grandchildren, Mallory Mastri, Leonardo Mastri, Madalena Scrivens, & William Scrivens; brother Anthony Olimpio.
Rosita's life story will be shared during her visitation at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 & Long Pond Rd.) Sunday, June 9th, 1-3 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday, June 10th, at 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. Immediately following Rosita will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Remembering Rosita,
Rosita N. Mastri was born on August 22, 1952, in the quaint town of Pratola Peligna, Abruzzi, Italy. Her early years were marked by the aftermath of World War II, with Italy grappling with poverty and rebuilding its nation. Rosita was the daughter of Vernon Aldo Olimpio and Antonina Presutti. Her father, Aldo, served as a security guard during the war before immigrating to Rochester to work as a tailor at Fashion Park. Three years later, he sent for Antonina and their children, including Rosita and her older brother Anthony.
Growing up in Rochester, Rosita attended Eastridge Senior High School, where she laid the foundation for her future. Her parents, Aldo and Antonina, were a study in contrasts. Aldo was a gregarious, larger-than-life figure, while Antonina was more reserved and introspective.
After completing her education, Rosita embarked on a career that showcased her sharp mind and attention to detail. She worked as a secretary at Xerox until 1983, before transitioning to roles at Aratari Auto Finishers and URMC Medical billing until her well-deserved retirement.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Rosita was known for her culinary skills, particularly her legendary Christmas cookies. She delighted in baking a variety of treats and sharing them with her colleagues and loved ones. Her passion for cooking extended to other realms as well, making her a beloved figure in family gatherings and social events.
In 1975, Rosita found love and companionship when she married Leonardo P. Mastri. Their marriage was a source of strength and joy until Leonardo's tragic passing from cancer in November 1994. However, Rosita's resilient spirit led her to find love again when she married John Sodeman on August 26, 2000.
Rosita's greatest joy in life came from her children, Maria G. Mastri Scrivens and Michael A. Mastri, and her cherished grandchildren. Family vacations to Canada's Wonderland in Toronto and picnics at Hamlin Beach Park were treasured memories that brought them closer together.
With John by her side, Rosita enjoyed weekend trips to the casino, dining out, and spending quality time with her growing family. They were blessed with wonderful neighbors on Everwild Lane, who became like extended family.
Rosita's determination, coupled with her generous spirit, left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through her kind and successful children and her beautiful grandchildren. Though she may no longer be with us, her memory continues to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Rosita N. Mastri, a woman of strength, love, and unwavering resilience.
