Bernard Eugene "Gene" Nail

Bernard Eugene "Gene" Nail, 73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Deaconess Hospice in Evansville, surrounded by his children and sister. He was born November 13, 1950, in Washington, Indiana, to Bernard "Bud" and Maxine (Perkins) Nail.

Gene attended Washington schools and later, served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 121 in Washington, Indiana. After 35 years of supporting the Warfighter, Gene retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana.

Gene enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball, NASCAR, Fox News, going to flea markets, and tinkering in his barn. His absolute favorite passion was waving the American flag.

Gene is survived by his children: Mindy (Brian) Walker; Missy (Ken) Muckerheide; and Eric Nail (Karmen Dayhuff), all of Loogootee. He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Taylor (Sean) Suehr; Allie Walker; Brittany (Trent) Berry; Gage (Ashlyn) Harder; Landon Harder; Ashley Nail; and Madison Nail; five great-grandchildren: Bram and Eira Suehr; Brandon, Cayden, and Kinsley Harder, all of Loogootee. Additionally, Gene leaves two sisters: Kay Morgan of Washington and Carol Perdue of Danville; and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents. Bernard "Bud" and Maxine Nail; half-brother, Tony Reynolds; sister, Connie Hedrick; and brothers-in-law: Terry Perdue and Daniel Morgan.
