Janet A. Racey
March 30, 1939 - May 30, 2024

Janet A. (Orchard) Racey, 85, passed away at her Washington residence during the morning hours of May 30, 2024. Her family was by her side. She was born in Washington on March 30, 1939, to Ray Stanley and Mary Ella (Ross) Cross. She was married to Landon Orchard. After Landon's passing, she married Larry "Rex" Racey, and he has passed away, also.

Janet was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School. She was a homemaker who was known to be a wonderful cook. She loved to read, sew, crochet, and was an avid birdwatcher. Very devout in her faith, Janet read her Bible daily and was faithful in her prayers. She had attended the Assembly of God.

Those who now mourn Janet's passing include her children: Susan (John) Holland of Bloomington; John (Frieda) Orchard of Washington; and Ellen Gahimer of Washington. Janet was blessed with six grandchildren: Tonya (Stephen) Myles; Daniel (Jamie) Livers; Ashley Orchard (Bradley Mullens); Nick Orchard (Heather Doscher); Brittany (April) Racey; and Jennifer (Danny) Nail. Additionally, Janet had thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She leaves two sisters: LaVerne Pierson (Phil Chestnut) of Washington and Mary Louise Cross of Vincennes. Janet leaves her good friend Mary Lou (Randy) Holland and her faithful pet feline, Lucy.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ella and Ray Cross; husbands: Landon Orchard and Larry "Rex" Racey; brother, Eugene Cross; and son-in-law, Bruce Gahimer.

A graveside service for Janet A. Racey will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 3, 2024, in the Plainville Cemetery, Plainville, Indiana. Pastor Brad Rainey will officiate.
