Zane F. Courter
February 16, 1943 - January 20, 2024
Zane F. Courter,80, passed away in the early morning hours of January 20, 2024, at the Villages of Oakridge in Washington, Indiana, three weeks after the passing of his beloved wife, Nancy. He was born in Allendale, Illinois, February 16, 1943, to Dalbern and Laura "Romance" (Schrader) Courter. He was married to Nancy (Gumbel) Courter and she preceded him in death just three weeks earlier on December 31, 2023. Nancy and Zane were happily married for fifty-eight years.
Zane was a graduate of Allendale High School. He was an accomplished artist and had completed a correspondence course from an art school. He also served his country through the National Guard.
As a young man, Zane helped with the family farm in Allendale. Early in their marriage, Zane and Nancy moved to Olney, Illinois, where he was a route salesman, and then, supervisor for Lewis Bakery/Bunny Bread. In later years, he was a truck driver for Bulkmatic.
Zane loved to hunt and fish as a younger man. He enjoyed reading, keeping up on world events, sports, music, birds, planes, and spending time with his wife, Nancy. He really appreciated seeing the United States and Canada through his job as a truck driver. He also had many cherished pets.
Zane and Nancy belonged to the Catholic Church.
Those who now mourn Zane's passing include his daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Perry of Charleston, Illinois; grandchildren: Andrea Perry of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Frank N. Perry; Jenna Perry; Reagan Perry; and Faith Perry all of Charleston, Illinois; brother, Vaughn (Sandy) Courter of Allendale, Illinois; sister-in-law, Shirley Gumbel of Olney, Illinois; and cousin, Darrell Pickering of Allendale, Illinois. Zane also leaves a niece and several nephews as well as extended family members. Finally, he leaves the residents and staff of the Villages of Oakridge whom he considered family.
Zane was preceded in death by his parents, Dalbern and Laura Courter; his wife, Nancy Courter; his in-laws, Howard and Maude Gumbel, and his brother-in-law, David Gumbel.
A graveside service for Zane Courter will be held at a later date.
