Erika was a fun-loving, honor student, dancer, and athlete, loved by many whose life took a dramatic turn when she suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was 13, which dramatically changed her life. She lived the next 20 years profoundly disabled, fighting numerous life-threatening health conditions, but living a full, happy life, surrounded by loving family and caretakers, engaging in music, art, yoga, physical therapy, swim, massage, meditation, and even dance. While she was unable to speak, she had a profound ability to communicate, to bring out the best in the people around her and to attract the best people. As her health worsened, her spirit remained undaunted, and she became an inspiration to many people around the world. Even at the end of her time here, she defied the odds, staying longer than thought possible in order to say goodbye to more of her family and friends. She will be remembered by so many for her infectious laugh, her compassion, her courage, her strength, and her love for life. Her loss will be immense, but her spirit will remain with us forever.
