A tribute to Michael written by his sister, Kathy, is included here:
Today, a very special person has come to the end of his life. His smile and laughter were so contagious. He always encouraged people to follow their passions from photography to gardening to crafting to sewing, and so much more. He was always there to encourage you to take that next step no matter where it might take you. He loved learning new things and thought we all should never stop learning. He was there for his family and friends no matter what was asked of him. In the last few months, I've learned so much about this so loved brother of mine from his wonderful, supportive group of friends. I will never be able to thank you all enough for the sharing of your time to visit him to the calling favors so things could be accomplished. Some of his family called him "Mr. Washington" and I now understand why. He was one in a million, a loving, caring son, brother, uncle, husband, and friend. As he requested, there will be no services. So, everyone please say goodbye to him in your own way and on your own time. For me, I will say, "I love you, brother, "8" x "8."
