Remembering Kathy

Kathy was born on December 1, 1956 in Elmira, NY. She was welcomed into life by her mother, Bette Reese, who was employed at the Strong Burge Carlson factory. Kathy was joined by siblings, Cindy, Debbie, Jim, Jill, and their German Shepherd dog. She attended grade school in Elmira and completed her high school education at Greece Arcadia. Upon entering the workforce, Kathy began her career with Kodak and stayed there for 30+ years. There, she met her lifelong friend, Barb.

In her free time, Kathy listened to Motown, country, and pop; watched dramas and detective shows; and stayed active by working out and teaching aerobics. She liked to explore and travel - seeing new sights and making new memories with the people she loved.

One day at McCurdy's department store, Kathy met a young man named Chuck VanCheri. That was the beginning of their love story, and the pair tied the knot in 1976. They faced their biggest hardship together when their first child, Chuckie, passed away in infancy. Eventually, however, happiness was on the horizon again when Kathy and Chuck celebrated the birth of their daughter, Jennifer. Kathy was a wonderful mom. She prioritized her family over anything else, and served as an example of generosity, dependability, honesty, and love to all she met.

Kathy was a precious presence in the lives of so many who held her dear. She will be remembered as a hardworking soul who was loyal and trustworthy, willing to do anything for someone who needed help. To her family, she was a caring and devoted Mom, Mema, sister, daughter, aunt, wife, and godmother. In their words, "Our hearts are forever broken without her here, but her endless love is here forever in spirit."
