William Carl Blanchard, 71, of Hartford, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was born in Des Moines on August 31, 1951, to Leaton and Alice (Mackin) Blanchard. William attended school in Des Moines. After school, he began working in retail sales in the automotive parts industry. He married Judy Davis in August of 1970 and the couple lived in Des Moines before moving to Hartford.
William was a volunteer for the Hartford Fire Department, a member of CB Radio Club, East Gate #630 Masonic Lodge, the Ga-Za-Zig Shrine, and the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Ray Blanchard of Hartford, IA, Bill Blanchard of Carlisle, IA, and Patti Kielmann of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Kimberly Kielmann, Samantha Rudolph, and Ashley Blanchard; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings Ron Blanchard, Leaton Blanchard, and Sandy Gathercole; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, sisters Linda Watkins and Pauline Young, and brother John Blanchard.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Shriners Children's Twin Cities Hospital or the Hartford Fire Department in William's name.
