Remembering Dee Silvio
Dee was born on May 5, 1939 in Rochester, NY at Strong Memorial Hospital. The year 1939 was one of significant historical importance, including momentous events like the start of World War II and the premiers of cinema classics, "Gone with the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz". For Dee's parents, however, the birth of their baby girl was the highlight of that memorable year. Her father, Alfred Mancuso was a mason employed by the City of Rochester Department of Public Works, while her mother, Rose, worked in the women's foundations department of McCurdy's. Dee and her mom were very close. While visiting New York City, the pair loved going to shows and embarking on shopping trips while Alfred relaxed by the racetrack.
As a child, Dee attended Rochester's Enrico Fermi School #17. She went on to graduate from Rochester's Jefferson High School, and furthered her education at SUNY Brockport, where she earned her bachelor's in education. Outside of the classroom, Dee excelled in athletics. She played racquetball and was an avid runner, even competing in 5k and 10k races. After completing her education, Dee began her career as a teacher. While teaching, she met her "card playing friends", Anne Hilbert and Jan Spaccasi, who remained her dear friends for years to come. In her free time, Dee unwound by reading, growing tomatoes, listening to Big Band & Frank Sinatra, and watching Seinfeld or British television, especially comedies and whodunnits.
Back in high school, Dee met her future husband, Carl Silvio. They dated steadily throughout their time in college and tied the knot on New Years Eve, 1960. Dee and Carl shared everything together. Their relationship was an example of love, generosity, devotion, and care for each other. Family was the most important aspect of Dee's life, and she treasured the time spent with her husband and her son, Carl. Together, they were loyal fans of the Bills and the Yankees. In fact, Dee and her family were Bills ticketholders for 30 years!
Dee's memory will be cherished forever by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her presence of love and comfort will be deeply missed by her entire family.

"Dear Mr. Silvio and Family,
It is with my deepest sympathy and much sadness I leave these memories.
Mrs Silvio was one of my favorite teachers when I was in English Village School in the late 60's.
I don't think a day went by since then, that I didn't think of her .
Her beautiful smile and bright eyes always lit up the room. You just knew her love of teaching and children was her calling.
I have many memories of those days but two really have stayed with me.
Mrs Silvio was the one who made me realize at that age teachers had lives outside of school. I believe at the time she was expecting and Mr. Silvio came in to see her. She introduced him to the class and went in the hall to speak with him. When she came back in the class I said, "Mrs Silvio, you're married?" she saw the shock on my face. She replied, "Yes Nancy, I am and I have a son." At that age you only think of your teacher as your teacher and nothing else.
The second time she came into the Mobil Gas Station , on Mt. Read and Maiden Lane, I was filling in at the register for one of my employees. When she walked in I was so happy, surprised and excited, all at the same time. I said, "Mrs Silvio, how are you do you remember me?" and she replied , "Yes, Nancy I do." We spoke for awhile and I told her I was married and my husband and I owned the gas station and the repair shop next door. We have 3 daughters who were all in Greece
Schools at the time and I was very involved, but I always wished they could have a teacher like her.
She truly had an wonderful impact on me, I always idolized her. She was unlike any other teacher. She had a grace about her that I could not and never will forget.
I don't think any of us realize how many lives we touch through life's journey. I remember telling my parents that when I grew up I wanted to be just like Mrs. Silvio, pretty, smart and so nice. She truly was unique, an icon and left a wonderful legacy for you all to carry on. You truly were blessed to have such an amazing wife , mother and grandmother in your family. No one who knew her could ever forget her. I thank God I had her touch my life.
I know you don't know me but when I saw Mrs Silvio passed away I had to say something.
I do also remember her asking me to stop talking when i was in her class. . I'm always told I text just like I talk , too much.! Still to this day.
I also remember I thought her first name was Sylvia because her last name was Sylvio. I Couldn't remember her first name, I only remembered Mrs Silvio and her husband was Carl. I always thought she looked like Connie Frances. I told my kids all about her and my daughter said, that's why she tries to be a good teacher because the students always remember the teachers they loved or disliked. Mrs. Sylvio was one that was definitley loved.
May she rest in peace, I know it's hard but she's in a better place with no more illness or suffering.
God bless her and your family always.
Again my Deepest Sympathy to all of you. You have many wonderful memories for you and her grand -daughters to remember.
God Bless and Great Fondness.
Love and Much respect
