Judith Ann (Morrell) Posiko, 73, of Greece, passed away on July 8 at home after a long illness. Judy was born in Fulton, NY, on February 5, 1950, to the late Robert C. Morrell and Joanne Scanlon and grew up living on the Chase Road. She was a 1964 graduate of Holy Family Catholic School in Fulton and attended Oswego Catholic High School before moving to Greece in 1967. After Judy graduated from Bishop Kearney High School, she received her nursing degree from Genesee Hospital School of Nursing in 1971.
Judy started her first job at Rochester General Hospital, and later became a hospice nurse spending much time caring for her terminally ill patients. In 1991, she began a 20-year career as a preschool teacher in the Funtime program at Our Mother of Sorrows in Greece, where she had a special fondness working with 3- and 4-year-olds.
In 1971, Judy married Nicholas Posiko and enjoyed 52 years together. They had three children. She was very proud of her granddaughters, and she looked forward to watching them grow and having them spend summers in Rochester with her.
Judy was driven by her faith throughout her life and dedicated much of her time to prayer and various church ministries helping anyone in need. She also made religious pilgrimages to the Holy Land and France.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Joanne, and her daughter Sonya Yvette. She is survived by her loving husband Nick, her daughter Emily, of Binghamton, her son Jonathan (Helen), of Somerville, Mass., and granddaughters Ava and Layla. She is also survived by her sister Loretta Morrell, of Greece.
The family would like to thank Judy's friends, family and hospice staff for caring for Judy in her last few months. It is with great appreciation that they cared for this amazing woman, our wife, mother, and grandmother. Her legacy will live on forever through the memories of those who had an opportunity to know her.
Judy's Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Saturday, July 15, 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Donations can be made to Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd., Rochester, NY 14612.
