Paul George Clausen
October 28, 1932 - June 23, 2023

Paul George Clausen, age 90, of Gretna, Nebraska, died June 23, 2023, at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Paul was born on October 28, 1932, on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa, to Vernon and Augusta (Fogle) Clausen.

Paul was baptized on November 20, 1932, at St. John Lutheran Church by Rev. A. Amstein; and confirmed on April 14, 1946, by Rev. Walter P. Schroeder at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. He received his elementary education in rural and parochial schools and attended Charter Oak High School, graduating with the class of 1950.

Following high school, Paul enlisted in the Navy and served from 1951 to 1956. After boot camp in San Diego, California, he joined the Naval Construction Battalion. Paul served his country in many locations abroad (Marshall Islands, Japan, Philippines, and Alaska's Aleutian Islands).

On May 29, 1954, Paul was united in marriage to Darlene Schultz at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. They were blessed with the birth of three children.

Following Paul's military service, he went to barber college and was a barber for 41 years in Denison, Iowa. Paul enjoyed woodworking until 2017 when he moved to Gretna, Nebraska. Several of his many woodworking accomplishments were building the covered bridge in Charter Oak's Arboretum in 1992 and the communion rail in St. John Lutheran Church.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife Darlene in May 2018, his parents, sister Vernette Bielfeldt, brother-in-law Emil Bielfeldt, brother-in-law Donald Schultz, and sister-in-law Helen Schultz. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Dawn Larson and husband Mark of Lee's Summit, MO; son Rodney Clausen and fiancée Shirley Kaylor of LaGrange, MO; and daughter Denise Ewing and husband Randy of Elkhorn, NE; grandson Matthew Larson and wife Jami of Gladstone, MO; granddaughter Sara Frank and husband Robert of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren Sidney, Henry, Allison, Katelyn, Josiah, Jeremiah, Bella, Emmerly, Colin and Zeeva; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation and memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, 104 Birch Street, Charter Oak, Iowa 51439. The visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment with military honors will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Charter Oak.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 11204 South 204th Street, Gretna, Nebraska 68028.

"My dear Uncle Paul?there are SO many memories?.the summers at the lake, countless games of cards (with many of the decks going to the fireplace when they weren?t playing ?right?), so many beautiful wooden projects to cherish & Uncle Paul in his wood shop, always a beautiful yard and garden, the barber shop, the home remodel when we moved to town?.Uncle Paul indeed leaves a legacy of memories to cherish along with a beautiful family to celebrate his life.
