Helen Jean Haase
April 19, 1934 - May 19, 2023

Helen Jean (Meyer) Haase was born on April 19, 1934, the daughter of William and Josephine (Bahnsen) Meyer. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, attaining the age of 89 years.

Helen was born on the family farm south of Westside, Iowa, where she grew up. She was baptized in infancy at the St. John's Evangelical Church in Westside and confirmed there in April of 1948. She received her education from the Hayes Township School.

On June 18, 1953, Helen was united in marriage to Herman Haase at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison where they have remained faithful members. They lived on the family farm west of Denison and they were blessed with four sons. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherishing time spent with family. She treasured family gatherings, especially on holidays and birthdays. She loved making special birthday cakes, Christmas cookies and caramels for family and friends. She was most known for her delicious cream puffs, fruit pizza, and cinnamon rolls; always willing to make them upon request. Helen spent many weekends doing demos at No Frills Super Market, which she thoroughly enjoyed and always looked forward to.

For many years, Helen had much joy babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A few of their favorite pastimes were staying overnight and having Grandma make them homemade pancakes or asking her to take them out to eat. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she always eager to help them with various projects. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman Haase in December of 2005; son, Dean Haase in July of 2003; brothers: Dean Meyer and his wife, Donna; Edward Meyer and his wife, Melvina; and Glen Meyer and his wife, Deloris; sister, Verna Thiedeman and her husband, Orville; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Haase; Elvira Hansen and her husband, Raymond; and Adeline Koenck and her husband Floyd.

She is survived by her three sons: Douglas Haase and his wife, Deborah; David Haase and his wife, Michele; and Daniel Haase and his wife, Jackie, all of Denison; seven grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with burial to follow in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
