Mary Lua Trede, 92 of Carson, IA, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Elm Crest Senior Living in Harlan, IA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Macedonia United Methodist Church. Visitation at the church will be held two hours prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson is caring for Mary Lua and her family.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Macedonia United Methodist Church or Elm Crest Senior Living in Harlan.

Mary Lua Trede, 92 of Carson, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Elm Crest Senior Living in Harlan, IA.

Mary Lua was born on August 4, 1930 in Lyons, Nebraska, one of three daughters of
Harvey Glen and Frances Mary (Plummer) White. Mary Lua worked as the secretary for the Carson-
Macedonia School in Macedonia until her retirement.

Mary Lua and Lyle Herbert Trede were united in marriage on January 9, 1949 at the Fifth Avenue Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, IA. They made their home on the farm where Lyle farmed and worked as a truck driver. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Marlene, Marsha, Madolyn, and Lonnie. In 1984, they moved to live in Carson.

Mary Lua loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and most of all being a grandma.

Mary Lua was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Lyle in 2006; son Lonnie in 2015; three grandsons in infancy, Richard, Rodrick and Ryan Sternberg; and sisters, Darlene Wulf Safley and Rhea Brummer.

Mary Lua is survived by her daughters, Marlene Houser and husband Kent of Wichita, KS, Marsha Sternberg and husband Rick of Carson, and Madolyn Frink and husband Jim of Henderson, IA; Robin Trede; 10 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sister-in-law Ruthie Trede of Ralston, NE; other relatives and a host of friends.
