Patrick John McCaffery was born April 3, 1950 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Daniel C. and Verna L. (Rogers) McCaffery. He was baptized into Christ and later confirmed his faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. He received his education from Manilla Community School and graduated with the class of 1968.
On January 24, 1970, Patrick was united in marriage to Diane Thomsen at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Daniel and Lisa. They made their home in Charter Oak until 1988 when the family moved to Denison.
He began his career at the Milwaukee Railroad where he became the section foreman until it closed down in 1980. He then became employed at Farmland in Denison where he worked for 32 years until his retirement.
After retirement, he kept busy by walking around Denison, running errands, shooting guns, reloading ammo, and cruising the countryside in his convertible. Patrick was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. He loved to go fishing, buying and trading guns, and spending time with his family.
Patrick passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, attaining the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Dan McCaffery.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Diane McCaffery of Denison; daughter, Lisa and her husband Roy Burk of Denison; two grandsons: Dalton Burk and Austin Burk both of Denison; brother-in-law, Charles Thomsen of Dow City; sister-in-law, Judy Thomsen of Denison; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Interment will be in the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Memorials may be directed to the family.
