Lifestory of Carmen P. Ricklefs

Carmen Ricklefs loved to sing. Some may say that her singing ability was not one of her attributes. Then again, when looked at differently... the joy it brought to her and others made you forget if she was on key or not. She grew up in a large family that immigrated from Chile to the United States in 1977. Carmen was just 5 years old then and became a true child of the 1980s, enjoying the music of the era.

Carmen was lucky to have very loving parents who strove for a better life for their children. She was the youngest of 6 to her parents, Francesco and Luisa D'Agostino. Siblings Gina, Jose Luis (Pepe), Mariela, Frank, and Sandra all played an important part in her life.

She met Dwaine Ricklefs and they married in 1993. They had two beautiful children, Julia and Eric. Carmen's great happiness in life was spending time with her family, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Over the years, this also included the fur family, her pups, Mia and Leo. For many years Carmen worked as Supervisor of Environmental Services at the Village at Unity.

Despite living with significant health issues, Carmen still found happiness and brought levity to the world. She was funny (... sometimes inappropriate!). Above all, she was strong and resilient. Carmen leaves a hole in the hearts of everyone she knew. They all learned to live a little kinder and love a little harder, thanks to her presence in their lives

Carmen's life story will be shared during visitation, 11:00 am -2:00 pm on Saturday, March 25th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carmen's name to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport NY 14450.

"This is written with heartfelt sorrow and sympathy. I worked with Carmen at the Woodlands for many years and I will always cherish our laughs and friendship. I remenber most the time we dressed up for Halloween and she would tease her hair into a big boffant and clean resident apartments. Carmen would always be there for a laugh or to help out and our residents and staff loved her. Her smile and laugh were infectious and it was a pleasure to work with her. It is hard to believe that so many years have passed since we talked , but I wil always consider her a friend. Heaven is getting a true angel and she will ber deeply missed. RIP . Cheryl Erath "

"To Carmen's Family, There are no words to express what a tragic loss our Carmen is for all of us. One of the things that helped me come to work each morning and get through the day was knowing she would be there. She was an extra special person. Always calm, cool, kind, fair, so laid back, took everything in stride. And then, of course, came the wit. You could always count on her to make everything funny and lighter than it all was. I consider myself so lucky to have known and worked with her. So very sorry for us all. God Bless, Chris Appoloney"
