Lyle Leonard Marquardt
January 2, 1945 - March 9, 2023

Lyle Leonard Marquardt, the son of Leonard and Mildred (Stier) Marquardt, was born on January 2, 1945, in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Lyle graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1963. He then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. He attended Iowa State University in Ames for a short time until he decided to take on semi-truck driving.

On December 29, 1968, Lyle was united in marriage to Sharon Johnson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. They made their home in Denison and were blessed with one daughter, Toni. He spent 44 years driving truck for various companies and retired from Walmart on May 16, 2016. Lyle was known by many nicknames and a few that stuck over the years were: "Shakey", "Butch", and "Deacon".

Butch was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Denison American Legion Post 8. He was gifted with being the life of the party and effortlessly made people laugh, he was quite the story teller. He will be remembered as a generous man and one could count on him to be there when you needed him most. Everyone he met was a friend. He cherished spending time with his family and he was a wonderful father and brother.

Butch passed away on March 9, 2023, at CHI Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 78 years, two months and seven days.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon Marquardt in 2016; nephew, Jay Sisson; and brother-in-law, Frank Sisson. He is survived by his daughter, Toni Marquardt of Council Bluffs; special "second daughter", Jill Palmer of Carroll; siblings: Joleen Sisson of Des Moines, Jeff (Sue) Marquardt of Carroll, and Tami (Gordon) Roth of Dana Point, California; several nieces and nephews; grandpuppy, Liam; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Memorials may be directed to the family.
