In loving memory of

Evelyn L. Shaw
June 21, 1929 - February 24, 2023

Evelyn Lorrine King was born June 21, 1929, to Charlie King and Edna Lee Jackson King. Evelyn did not come into this world alone. She came with her twin sister Ethel, and a brother who was stillborn. Evelyn was born 6 minutes after her sister Ethel in San Antonio, Texas, Bexar County. Evelyn was affectionately called "Twin" by classmates, "Butch" by close friends, and "Annie" by her nieces and nephews.

She was educated at Booker T. Washington Elementary school, Douglas Jr. High school, and graduated from Phillis Wheatly High School in May, 1947. Evelyn also attended Huston-Tillotson University, majoring in business. She and her sister, Ethel, were both skilled and professionally trained Beauticians for over fifty years before retiring.

In January 1948, Evelyn married Howard Walker. Born to this union were two children, Evelyn Lorraine and Howard Charles. Evelyn became a Christian and was baptized at the age of twelve. She was a member of the Usher Board at Antioch Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. In 1953, she came to San Diego, California, where she became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend T.C. Columbus. Evelyn also met and married Reverend Frank Shaw, and to that union came Edna Lee. She later moved her membership to Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Otay, California, under the pastoral leadership of her husband, Reverend Frank Shaw. After the passing of her husband in January 2009, she remained First Lady Emeritus under the leadership of Pastor Anthony J. Howard and presently Pastor Calvin D. Langston. As a First Lady, she wore many hats. She was part of the Usher Board and Choir, and was also a Sunday School Teacher and the Mission President. Evelyn was also the president of the Ministers Wives & Widows Association, as well as traveled with the National Singing Quartet Convention of America Local 80-2.

Evelyn worked in many capacities, including being an office secretary to Dr. Willie Morrow for over 6 years. After which, she went to work for Scripps Institution of Oceanography to work alongside the world's renowned marine biologist. She retired twenty-eight years later. Evelyn continued to seek her passions after retirement by becoming a Foster Grandparent, working for the Catholic Charities and the Saint Stevens Daycare and Nursery for seventeen years. Growing up, Evelyn was on the pep squad and was a star basketball player; playing the position of guard. She enjoyed sports and gatherings with family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and being a First Lady. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister, especially on cruises. Wherever you saw one, you saw the other. They were always together and often confused people, including their own children as to which sister was which. Evelyn was able to travel all fifty states and had the pleasure of visiting Taiwan and the Caribbean Islands. God granted Ethel & Evelyn seventy-eight years and eight months together, meanwhile he also granted Evelyn ninety-three years and eight months.

On Friday, February 24, 2023, Evelyn Lorrine King Shaw was called from earth to her heavenly reward in the arms of her Savior and heard him lovingly say "Evelyn" Well done thy, good and faithful servant, you fought a good fight; you kept the faith; you finished the course.
