Kathryn Lynn Bozdech (nee Lockheart) died at home surrounded by her family on February 14th, 2023 after a long illness.
Kathy was born on November 21st, 1959 in Davenport, Iowa to James and Sharon (Tumey) Lockheart. She grew up in the Quad Cities attending a variety of schools, graduating from Davenport West in 1977. She went on to attend the University of Iowa, majoring in journalism and minoring in business, where she met her husband, John. Despite having to chaperone Kathy's teenage sisters on their first date, John and Kathy were wed in May of 1980.
Kathy graduated from the University of Iowa in 1981 and they soon moved to Rochester, NY to start John's residency. There, they had their first child, Nicholas, in 1984. The trio moved to Denver, Colorado in 1985 to continue John's education and in 1986 had their second child, Joseph. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1988 In they completed the family with the birth of their youngest, Margaret, in 1989.
The family moved to Quincy, IL in 1992 and quickly developed a close community of friends, including the famous "Card Ladies". Kathy was active in the community as one of the founders of the Quincy Hospitality House and Park Lots for Tots. She was very involved in Symphony of Trees, PEO, Friends in Council, and Adams County Medical Alliance. She was also very active in her children's schools, volunteering at Ellington Library and PTA, Scholastic Bowl, and Mississippi Thespians. She applied her journalism training to create newsletters, billboards, and pamphlets for the many volunteer causes that were close to her heart.
Though she made her home in Quincy, her zeal for adventure kept her on the move. She loved ocean cruises- the stormier the better. She loved trying new cuisines both in the kitchen and at the table. She was just as content to simply take a drive exploring the hidden corners of the Midwest. Many an afternoon were spent eating lunch by the Mississippi River or watching the pelicans off of Quinsippi Island. She loved good wine, noisy friends, and laughter, but not her husband's bad jokes.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father James Lockheart, and brother Scott Lockheart. She is survived by her husband John of Quincy, IL; her children Nicholas Bozdech of Quincy, IL; Joseph Bozdech of Phoenix, AZ; Margaret Bozdech (Steven Bales) of Madison, WI; granddaughter Abigail Bozdech of Madison, WI; mother Sharon Boron of Davenport, IA; brother Jeffrey Lockheart of Palm Harbor, FL; and mother-in-law Ruth Bozdech of Dekalb, IL. She is also survived by the family she chose-her many beloved friends.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on March 11, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Quincy Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to Quanada, Jackson-Lincoln Swimming Complex, or the Teresa Adams House (formerly the Quincy Hospitality House). Memorial Donations may be made online at https://memorials.hansenspear.com
