Mervin Cook
July 24, 1946 - January 24, 2023

Mervin J. Cook, 76, of Lehigh passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elkhorn Township Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and the VFW Post 1856. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, January 30, 2023 at the funeral home.

Mervin James Cook was born in Davenport to Melvin and Frances Cook. He attended school in Otho and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1964. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam until his discharge in 1967. He was united in marriage to Wilma Bethel in 1969. The couple lived in Otho, Dubuque and then Lehigh. He worked at Georgia Pacific, National Gypsum, Pepsi, the Army National Guard before retiring as a Federal Meat Inspector.

Mervin is survived by his daughters Deborah Cook Ulstad and Laura (Cameron) Kirkpatrick; grandchildren Logan (Austie) Ulstad, Devin Ulstad, Bryant Ulstad, Adyn Ulstad, Taylor (Dakota) Stenzel; great-grandchildren Bailey, Lainey, Maizley, Huxley Ulstad and Denver Stenzel; brothers Robert (Jeanine) Cook, Clark Cook; sister-in-laws Leanne (Albert) Parris, Lois Cook, Kathy Cook, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Cook; parents; brother Bruce Cook; niece Melanie Cook; and in-laws James and Leana Bethel.

Memorials may be left to family discretion.
