In loving memory of

Virginia E. Williams

Virginia E. Williams, age 100, of Quincy (previously of Pittsfield, Milford, Stockland, Mt. Pulaski and Champaign, Illinois), died peacefully Monday, January 16, 2023, at 2:02 am in the Illinois Veterans Home.

Virginia Elizabeth was born September 12, 1922 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Nicholas and Victoria Cornea Yaru. She married Robert E. Williams on September 22, 1950, in Urbana, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2009. Virginia greatly enjoyed her 100th birthday celebrations together with her family and the entire Veterans Home.

Virginia graduated from Timken High School in Canton, Ohio, and became a skilled business secretary before enrolling at the University of Illinois prior to her marriage and the birth of her children. Virginia's children and family were her life's work. She was fiercely dedicated to their education and very proud of them all. Her work ethic, boundless energy, strong convictions and determination for everyone, broad interests and love of animals, reading, gardening, the arts and cooking live on, as do her flaky pie crusts and rhubarb pie.

Virginia is survived by her son, Mark (Deborah) Williams of Mahomet, IL; two daughters, Janet (Bill McDonald) Williams of San Antonio, TX, and Margaret (Eric Larson) Williams of Elgin, IL; four grandchildren, Claire (Joel Knoll) Williams, Alex (Ashley) Williams, Willa McDonald, and Madelaine Williams-Larson, and a great granddaughter, Crina Williams. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rosemary, 2 nephews and a niece (Nick, Tom and Sue Yaru) and their families, plus a cousin in Ohio, Barbara Cornea Lockhart.

In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Nicholas Yaru, and a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Williams.

Virginia's family expresses the deepest appreciation to the Illinois Veterans Home staff for their dedicated care over the years.

Memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home (Fifer A and B) for the loving care provided to Virginia in the years preceding her death, or to a school or library of your choice. Memorial Donations may be made online at https://memorials.hansenspear.com
